Ferris wheel in ''Christmas In Conway'', 2013
Round Concepts was proud to supply the Big Eli® No. 12 ferris wheel for the Hallmark TV movie "Christmas In Conway" which originally aired on ABC, Sunday, December 1st, 2013 at 9:00 PM ET.
The Hallmark Hall of Fame Production "Christmas in Conway", packs a well-known cast, and one unusual movie star: A Ferris wheel. The vintage 1921 Big Eli® 12 seat Ferris wheel used in the film spent years atop the Boardwalk Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. When the hotel was closed in January of 2006, Round Concepts (a subsidiary of Sound Concepts Inc.) removed the wheel, restored it, and added it to their rental inventory. Round Concepts’ Big Eli®
ferris wheels have appeared in other films such as “The Lone Ranger” (2013), and “Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon” (2011). “Christmas in Conway” is the first film to feature the historic Las Vegas Boardwalk Casino Ferris wheel.
"Christmas in Conway" stars Mary-Louise Parker (Emmy®, Golden Globe®, and Tony Awards® winner; “Angels in America”, “Weeds”, “Proof”) and Andy Garcia (Oscar®, Emmy®, and Golden Globe® nominee; “The Godfather Part III”, “For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story"). Other actors include Riley Smith (“90210”, “Radio”), Cheri Oteri (“Saturday Night Live”, “Grown Ups 2”), and Mandy Moore (“Tangled”, “The Princess Diaries”).
"Christmas in Conway" tells the story of how Duncan Mayor (Andy Garcia) enlists the help of Tommy Harris (Riley Smith) to set up a Ferris wheel in his back yard for his ailing wife Suzy (Mary-Louise Parker). Years prior, Duncan had proposed to Suzy on a Ferris wheel, so the project has a special significance. Natalie Stringer (Mandy Moore), moves in with Suzy and Duncan to provide nursing care for Suzy’s while she is sick. Romantic sparks fly between Suzy and Duncan, as well as between Natalie and Tommy, much to the annoyance of Gayle (Cheri Oteri), the next-door neighbor.
Mary-Louise Parker describes the production as “unabashedly romantic”. She adds “There’s pure devotion between Suzy and Duncan. The purity of Duncan and Suzy’s love [and] the enduring nature of their love, [is] what attracted me to this [project]”.
Andy Garcia comments “It’s a beautiful story. The notion of a man loving his wife so much that he’d build this Ferris wheel in their back yard so they can relive a magical moment in their life together… When they told me Mary-Louise Parker was involved, I said, `Okay, I’m in’”.
"Christmas in Conway" was filmed on location in North Carolina over a six week schedule where the Ferris wheel was repeatedly assembled and disassembled for various scenes.
